The Snowed
of Acay, we took our name from it, situaded in

principal peak has a height of 5.716 meters,
This mountain is clearly view if it is
journeyed trhough the "Train to clouds" (Tren a las Nubes),
from Muņano station, from where it is possible to be
appreciated toard the south in all its magnitude. If
the traveller journeys the national route Nš 51 (Salta - S.A. de los Cobres - Paso de Sico - Chile),
the Acay appears clearly for the first time towards the bottom of the Quebrada de Incahuasi, near the
place Encrucijada, with its characteristic form of
"Canadian Carp", is also descried. But once transferred Abra Blanca (4.080 ms) in direction towards
The Acay doesn’t covered of snow always, only its peak, caused by some little
winter snowed. In dry seasons even usually it sees to it undresses.
Nevertheless it is common that in summer, between the months of January and
April, this mountain is tottaly dressed in white, due
to summer storms.
The Nevado de Acay
is one of so many sacred mountains of Salta, and as
much in its peak as in the environs there is evidence of Pre-Columbian human
presence. In his peak, slopes and environs there are archaeological rest
consisting enclosures, walls, ways and petroglyphs.
At the moment, the villagers even feel respect
by this mountain, of wich numerous legend and stories
of hidden treasures and Gods exist as well guardians of such.
From the spor point
of view, the Nevado de Acay is a great challenge for montanist of all the world. Althought technically some does not present display
difficulty, if it is however the strong effects of the height
that feel those that tries their ascent.
